Which car to change into for commute?

Hi. I am currently looking at changing my car, I travel 58 miles per day in the West of Ireland!! What would you think of the Nissan Qashquai... approx. 3 year old 131 onwards, would you recommend a particular one, especially engine size. Other possibility is a Volvo S60? Thanks for your time.

Our answer:

Hi Noreen,

A Qashqai would certainly be good, and the extra ride height would be useful on some of those roads. A Skoda Yeti is also a very good option, or if you fancied buying new, have a look at the new Toyota C-HR.

The S60 is an entirely different kind of car, but a really, really nice one – comfortable, reliable and with either the (older) 1.6 diesel engine or the (newer) 2.0-litre diesel hugely economical. It is quite low slung though, so if you’re dealing with really rough roads every day, one of the others might still be a better choice. The S60 is a bit classier than either though, and enormously safe too.
