Anything small, underpowered and with a tiny engine – it’s the only way you’ll get insurance. Stick to 1.2 litres or less, and look at the city cars mainly: Hyundai i10, Kia Picanto, Toyota Aygo, Skoda Citigo, SEAT Mii, Volkswagen Up, Peugeot 108, Citroen C1 and so on. If you feel they’re just a bit too physically small, then a Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra or Honda Jazz might be a good shout, but you need to remember the tiny engine mantra.
