We’ve contacted an expert on vans, Paul White from Fleet Car magazine, and he’s suggested that the Iveco Daily has the best overall fuel economy figure, of 35mpg, but that it’s a very narrow view of any van. The fuel consumption tests are conducted with no load in the back. Also, there was less than 1.0 litre per 100km difference between that and the worst claimed figure, for the Volkswagen Crafter. The advice we’ve been given is to look closely at the whole finance package for the van, as that could be a far more significant financial factor than the fuel consumption.
