Hi there, I'm looking to sell my old Hyundai Santa Fe 7 seater and replace it with something that is high off the road, an SUV style and automatic, no need for a 7 seater. I like the look of the Volvo xc90 or BMW X3. Looking for low rd tax or worse case scenario the same as the Hyundai, bracket F. Appreciate my guidance please. Thank you
Hi Jean,
From your criteria, the X3 makes more sense, as the XC90 is a seven-seater only and you said you didn’t need that. Even better, the current BMW X3 xDrive20d sits in Band B2 for road tax, so it’ll cost you just €280 per year to put it on the road. If you did like the look of the Volvo, then consider the smaller, five-seat XC60 SUV, which (in D4 diesel guise) sits in the same Band B2 as the BMW. If you do very low miles per year, you could also consider the plug-in hybrid XC60, called the T8 Twin Engine, which is even lower for road tax (Band A1, €170 per annum) – but this is a very expensive vehicle to buy. The X3 and D4 XC60 are more affordable.
