There are a lot of mid-sized vehicles in this price bracket which suit, like the Nissan Qashqai, SEAT Ateca and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. If you need something slightly bigger, the Nissan X-Trail and Hyundai Santa Fe are both worth checking out, as you’ll get new(ish), low-mileage examples for the cash. For a premium air, look for a Mk1 Audi Q5 quattro, which’ll have DSG and is a lovely all-rounder. You could risk a higher-mileage Land Rover Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport Mk1 or Audi Q7, but the worry here is you might have to face big repair bills if anything goes wrong on these prestige vehicles.
