The 2008 Mercedes E-Class would be a late-model edition of the W211 generation of the car, launched in 2003. Of the trim lines you’ve mentioned, Avantgarde and Classic are lower specs, Elegance is mid-range and Executive/Sport are at the top of the tree. For economy, it’s the usual answer – you need one of the diesels (badged ‘CDI’ in those days) and the best is the 170hp E 220 CDI.
