Hello Kate,

You should add to your list the SEAT Ibiza (which is the same car as the Fabia and Polo underneath) and the Ford Fiesta, both of which have lovely 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol options. You should also have a look at the Hyundai i20 and Kia Rio, both of which will come with long warranties and which, again, have 1.0 T-GDi three-cylinder petrol options. A slightly more stylish option would be the Citroen C3 with the 1.2-litre PureTech motor, which has a nice ride and a distinctive interior. And don’t discount the current Nissan Micra, which is a lot more interesting than any of its predecessors and which has another 1.0-litre engine option.

Your car is worth around €9,500, slightly less on a trade-in, so you’re looking at a budget approaching €20,000. A cursory check shows that used examples of all the cars we’ve listed are available in your price range - €17,000 should get you any of the above, in one form or another.
