When to change my Jetta's belt?

When to change my Jetta's belt?

My VW Jetta has 102000klms. It is petrol. When should I change the timing belt ?

Our answer:

Hi Mary,

You've not mentioned the year or engine size, so we're going to have to do some guesswork. The petrol engines in the pre-2014 Jetta all used timing chains, not belts, so let's assume it's the 2014-2018 model. From 2015 on, the 1.2 TSI petrol engine used a timing belt. It doesn't have a set mileage or time to change it, but instead it is advised that it is checked by a mechanic at 240,000km for condition, and then every 30,000km after that until it's deemed necessary to change it.
