When to change a Hyundai i30's water pump?

Hi when to change water pump on my hyundai i30 2014, 1.4 engine

Our answer:

Hi Riki,

The 1.4-litre engines in the i30 of that age have timing chains, not belts. If they had timing belts, then you'd change the coolant pump at the same time as the belt, as it's a sensible precaution and all the dismantling to get to the coolant pump is more or less done anyway to remove the belt. There is no set replacement schedule for a timing chain, however, which means there is no set replacement schedule for the coolant pump. If there is nothing wrong with the heating of the car and the engine is kept to a correct operating temperature at all times then there's no reason to worry about replacing the pump.
