When to change a Clio's chain?

When should the timing chain on a 2003 Renault Clio be changed?

Our answer:

Hi Claire,

If the car has a timing chain (as opposed to a timing belt), then there is no set replacement schedule. Chains are ostensibly designed to last the life of the engine. That said, they do sometimes get noisy or fail, so if your car is making new and strange noises from the engine bay, have a good mechanic take a look.

Let us know which engine your car has if you want us to confirm whether it has a timing belt or chain.
