When should I change my Yeti's belt?

When should I change my Yeti's belt?

I'm very confused with all the different miles/kms recommdations for changing the cambelt on a 62 plate Skoda 2.0 diesel Yeti. I've always followed the original 5year or around 70000 mile schedule. I've now been told, as of last year it now 140000 miles. This to me is very worrying and I'm suspicious that the reason was to make the same including Europe and a mistake in the conversion was that it was 140000kms which is around 80/90000 miles. I'm very dubious to leave changing to such a large jump. Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Peter,

Our information is that it should be changed at least every 210,000km (just over 130,000 miles) regardless of time. There is a different schedule for cars operating in "countries with a high level of dust" where the belt should be changed at least every 120,000km (just under 75,000 miles).

The thing to note here is that those numbers are maximums. If it gives you peace of mind, there's no reason - other than cost - not to change the belt more frequently. A good mechanic should be able to take off the top cover over the belt and inspect its condition without doing much else, too, if you'd like further reassurance at any time in the belt's life.
