If your car has the automatic gearbox, then your issue may not be as terminal as it appears. That car is known to develop issues with the brake pedal position switch, which leads to issues with the transmission operation. It's a relatively easy and cheap fix.

Fingers crossed that is the problem, but you'll need to get the car looked at by a mechanic to confirm it.
