I have a Ford Focus 2000 estate model with the same battery and it starts first turn of the key. However, it has started to pull (lose power) for a second or two when driving long journey and speed around 100km per hour. Would the battery cause this dip in power? I am thinking of changing for a new estate what would you recommend. Budget around 30k.
Hi Frank,
A reduction in battery charge shouldn't cause that dip in power you're experiencing, especially as it starts first time. That shows that the battery and the charging circuit are probably just fine. Without further information it's difficult to assess what is causing the issue though so we'd urge you to bring the car to a good mechanic for a look.
If you do decide to go for a new estate with a budget of €30,000, the world is your oyster really. You could upgrade to the new Focus Estate, which is a fine car, but other great options include the stylish SEAT Leon ST, capacious Skoda Octavia Combi and a dark horse that's well worth checking out, the Honda Civic Tourer. We also like the Kia cee'd SW. With that budget you could even go up a class if you wanted, though you'd be limited on specification then.
