You've not told us which engine your car has, but one known issue with the 1.6-litre diesel, for example, is that the turbocharger vane position actuator ventilation hole becomes blocked, causing all kinds of engine running problems. It's not a difficult or expensive thing to remedy if that is the source of your issue, so I suggest getting a mechanic to take a look at it for you.
