Without knowing the year or engine of your car we're going to have to be a little vague, but certain versions of the Insignia were known to suffer from ECU (Engine Control Unit) issues that caused a myriad of problems such as this. It may be possible to reprogram the computer.

Of course, your problem could just be a faulty sensor, too, so we'd advise you bring the car along to a good mechanic to have it checked over.
