Recently got a 2013 golf, 1.6 diesel. Timing belt and service just done but the fuel economy is terrible. Used a 1/4 of a tank on an 80km round trip on a motorway yesterday. There’s no signs of any leaks or anything. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? Thanks
Hi Craig,
If the car has measurably worse fuel consumption then you need to bring it back to the garage you had the work done at right away. Be as factual as you can, stating the difference in fuel economy and they'll have to look into it. Did they use the correct oil and filters for oil and air? Those will all have an effect, as will the tension on the timing belt and of course the timing itself.
