I just noticed that when I bought my Ford Focus Zetec TDCi new 8 years ago it was described in the garage documents as having a 1.6 litre engine. however the tax and insurance have always said it has a 1388cc engine. Could I have been charged more because they sold it as having a bigger engine?
Hi Maire,
That sounds most unusual and yes, most of the time, when buying new, a car with a larger engine costs more than one with a smaller unit. I wonder has it been registered as a 1,388cc car incorrectly rather than the garage trying to mislead you. You should be able to check the engine identification plate under the bonnet, or get the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and ring the garage to get confirmation.
Not that I'm sure what you could do with that knowledge at this late stage.
