Assuming you mean the ubiquitous 2.0 diesel model, then you need to tread carefully. Turbos can go pop and the timing chain (mounted inaccessible at the back of the engine) can snap without warning. Other smaller problems are faulty central locking, wheezing air conditioning and some fragile interior trim. Basically, just don't buy one that doesn't have a full, complete BMW service history.
