Hi, I have just purchased a 2008 Volkswagen Eos 2.0 TSI DSG model (August), similar engine to the Golf GTI. According to the tax disc on the car the annual road tax is €1,200, which means it is in Band F. If I go into the VRT calculation app it tells me that the CO2 emissions are 188g/km so it should be a tax Band of E. It also says this on the SEAI website so can you tell me which is correct please?
Thanks
Hi Niall,
It depends on the optional equipment fitted to the car. Extra kit can push up the weight of a car, increasing its CO2 figure, and you only need a 2g/km difference in this case to push you into Band F. The most likely culprit is the wheel size. If the car rides on larger alloy wheels, that changes the effective gearing of the car and pushes up the CO2.
