Any MPV or crossover/SUV will have a higher hip point than your regular saloon, hatchback and estate cars, which makes getting into and out of the vehicle easier. If you want an MPV that’s smaller than an old Xsara Picasso, that’s going to be tricky, as they’re a dying breed these days and tend only to be larger, seven-seat machines. You might be able to look at the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, though, if you like the styling.

On the crossover front, you have much more choice and – to make it smaller than your Citroen – you want to look at the B-segment vehicles. So all of the Ford EcoSport, Kia Stonic, Hyundai Kona, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Peuegot 2008, Citroen C3 Aircross, Opel Mokka X (or Crossland X) or the SEAT Arona should suit your needs – and many of these have been out a few years now, so there should be plenty of good used examples to suit your budget.
