Hi I currently drive qashqai+2 1.5 dsl 141 reg 30000kms a yr.Family is wife and 2 toddlers,With diesel now appearing a lame duck I was considering 2nd hand 2016 vw Passat 2lt diesel/skoda superb, which would be my last diesel purchase before going hybrid in 5/6 yrs or should I consider a hybrid preferably mini suv 50mpgs and above.Any suggestions would be appreciated the budget would be 20000 plus trade in value.I wouldn’t have a problem buying a demo model either.
Hi Fergus,
The fact that you’ve got just the two kids helps a bit, as it means we don’t have to go looking for a seven-seater. The two best hybrid SUVs on the market right now are the Toyota C-HR Hybrid (looks great, great to drive, but a touch on the small side in the back and boot) and the Kia Niro Hybrid (simple, straight-forward, very frugal). You could still go for the Passat or the Skoda, both of which would be sharper to drive and have much more cabin space, and they are available with an excellent 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is nearly as frugal as a diesel, so could make a very good interim choice if you want to hold off to go hybrid. A Mondeo 1.5 EcoBoost petrol is also a good alternative choice.
