Hi. On my golf, it states that tyres front and back should be 2.3 when fully heated. With a full load, it should be 2.3 and 2.8 front and back. 70% of the time, it is just myself driving, out of curiosity, should I, or would it be wise to have the tyres pressured as if it were fully laden all the time or is that unwise? Just curious Thanks Neil
Hi Neil,
It’s probably best you don’t run the tyres at the fully laden pressure on the Golf if you’re in the car on your own most of the time. Over-inflating tyres can lead to uneven wear (the tread will go in the centre of the tyres, rather than at their shoulders) and you might have a blow-out if you’re running at speeds on a warm day and the tyres become too hot. The 2.8 bar rear tyre pressure fully laden is there to compensate for heavy loads in the boot, so if you’ve got nothing in the back of the car, just keep them at 2.3 bar all round.
