The most commonly reported problems on the last-generation Lancer are peeling lacquer on the paintwork, a tendency for the engine to overheat as a result of a failed radiator cooling fan and a sticky main control knob on the heating/ventilation system. Of these, the potentially most troublesome will be the overheating, so check for that during a test drive.
