What to do with my old Saab?

I have a Saab 9-3 diesel with 302,000km on the clock, the clutch and flywheel just gone, it's first one would you believe, a testament to good driving and mainly motorway driving. Not sure about demand and car value, mechanic stated circa €1,500 to repair. Getting a company car in five months; should I repair the Saab and drive for five months then sell or hire a car for five months and scrap the Saab?

Our answer:

Hi David,

On the basis that it’ll cost you a lot more than €1,500 to hire a car for five months, I’d say your best bet is one of two options: either, as you say, repair the Saab and keep it going and then try and get what you can for it in five months' time (which probably won’t be all that much – they’re not much in demand at the moment). Or you could chuck the Saab now, get what little value there is out of it and try a bit of ‘Bangernomics’. There are lots of cars out there for under €1,000 that’ll keep you mobile for five months and it could be rather good fun to try and get something interesting.
