With a car of that age, you really need to check everything, but the common failure points on the MkIII Mondeo are leaky windscreen washer bottles, failing power steering, iffy electronics (especially where warning lights are concerned), water getting in through the radio aerial mount and the rear window washer nozzle, worn rear suspension bushes and faulty anti-roll bar links.
