What size engine suits 25,000km a year?

What size engine for someone who drives 25,000km a year

Our answer:

Hi Jim,

I'm afraid there's no simple answer to that question. If most of that driving is at quick motorway speeds, then undoubtedly a diesel is the way to go still. And you don't need a big diesel engine for cruising. Some choose a bigger engine to give them more performance when they want it. If the driving is slower than that, it might be worth considering a regular hybrid or, if you can charge the car up regularly, even a plug-in hybrid, but even so, there's a wide range of engine sizes in all of those. A larger car will, generally, need a larger engine of course.
