What should I do with my Kadjar?

Hi Shane, I recently bought a brand new Renault kadjar which had Gardx protection applied as part of the deal. While washing the car the other day I noticed what appears to be rust spots/deposits on the chrome trims around the windows. I thought to myself that this should not be the case on a 6 week old car that has been treated with protection products by the garage. This got me thinking how long had my car been hanging around before it was sold to me and just how good of a job did the detailing crew in the garage do before they applied the Gardx. I checked the VIN (VF1RFE00X55672529) but all I can figure out is that it's a Renault made in France. My questions are could you please decipher the VIN to give me a rough production date? And should I take the car back to the garage to look at the window trims ? Thanks a million Patrick.

Our answer:

Hi Pat,

Decoding a VIN can be tricky at times, but we can tell from yours it seems as if the car was built in late 2016, which means that it could well have been sitting around for some time. That’s not unusual. and as long as the cars are properly stored and cared for then it shouldn’t affect the overall condition much. We’ve no direct experience of GARDX so can’t comment on that, but if there is any rust on a brand new car then that’s simply not good enough, and all Renaults are covered by a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty and a five-year paint warranty, so take it back to the dealer and demand a fix, and preferably an inspection in case there’s rust getting in elsewhere.
