What mileage to change the belt in a Focus diesel?

At what milege should a timing belt be changed in a ford focus and what other things should i look out for in a 2008 i.6 diesel

Our answer:

Hi Kathy,

It's recommended to change that car's belt at least every 200,000km or every ten years, whichever is sooner.

There's lots to look out for on used examples, including turbocharger failure (low power, rattling noise from the turbo, lots of exhaust smoke), which is probably the most expensive thing that goes wrong. The dual-clutch automatic transmission isn't great and there may be other noises and leaks, but most of those things can be fixed inexpensively.
