Ask a Question here: We own a 161 Mitsubishi pajero 5 seater and are currently paying €1809 road tax eventhough the emmissions is just below 225g/km and though we should be only paying €1200. Is there any way around this?
Hi Padraic,
It's an annoyingly weird quirk of the current motor tax system I'm afraid. I'm presuming this is a Business Edition Pajero? Technically that's a commercial vehicle with seats, but you've obviously done the legally correct thing and declared it as a family vehicle for tax purposes. When you do that, the tax on such a car switches from the CO2-based system to the old engine capacity system and so you end up paying €1,809. Why? Because Ireland.
