Hi Oliver,
Simple - Honda Civic 1.6 iDTEC. It is staggeringly unlikely to ever break down. Toyota Auris D-4D also hugely reliable as is a Skoda Octavia TDI. Any Subaru is basically indestructible and, if you can get away from diesel and fancy a hybrid, any Lexus model is essentially unstoppable.
