Basically most of the major mid-size MPVs currently on sale have a full five-star safety rating from EuroNCAP so I think what separates them here is the specific child occupant safety rating. The one with the highest rating so far for child occupant protection is the new Volkswagen Touran with 89 per cent child protection rating, but sadly that hasn’t even gone on sale yet, let alone been around long enough to be a used buy. The good news is that the 2013-on Citroen C4 Picasso has an 88 per cent child occupant rating, which is excellent. Next best is the Opel Zafira Tourer (launched in 2011 and a really underrated car – well worth tracking one down) that has an 83 per cent child safety rating and close behind that is the current-shape Ford Grand C-Max, on 81 per cent.
