Apparently they’re a really reliable, solid thing actually. If it’s quattro then you need to check that all the tyres are the same make, rating and have worn at the same rate, as mismatched tyres can play merry hell with the four-wheel drive system’s electronics. The engine exhaust manifolds can apparently give some bother, so check and see if they’ve been replaced – if so, all well and good. The front anti-roll-bar bushings can go but they’re not an expensive fix.
