What economical car would you recommend for €15,000

I have about €15,000 to spend. I need a seriously economical car to run with cheap tax. I will be doing quite a bit of mileage so comfort is important. That said I don't mind a small car. I am a full time student doing a 30-mile round trip to college every day. And a trip from Galway to Cork every second weekend. So it's all about running costs. I do prefer Japanese cars as a rule but I am open to suggestions.

Many thanks

Hi Yvonne,

With that much budget to spend you really do have about as much choice as you want. If you fancied something brand new, how about the new Hyundai i20? Bigger and comfier on the inside than you'd think, so it's perfect for those long journeys and the five-year warranty means it'll keep the running costs down.

You might fancy a diesel for those long Galway-Cork hauls though so how about going second hand and maybe picking up a Mazda3? We found a 2011 1.6 diesel that would make an ideal all-rounder and they're endlessly reliable.
