I plan to live in Ireland for 2 years and need a car to drive about. I'm from the UK and have bought cars before but Ireland is different. I see all cars have 3 stickers on the front windscreen. With that in mind what the the most important documents needed when buying a car in Ireland. Have you got a full checklist like Registration Certificate, NCT, Tax certificate etc etc?? Thanks.
Hi Alan,
Yes, the third sticker is for the NCT, which is the equivalent of the MOT in the UK. Once a car is four years old, you have to get it inspected every two years, and then every year once the car is ten years old. As for the rest of the paperwork, yes it’s just the normal stuff — registration cert, old tax discs and certs, NCT certs and, of course, the all-important service history. We recommend you getting a history check through Cartell.ie as well.
