In terms of comfort, reliability, handling and residual value, the 6 is at or near the very top of our shopping list when it comes to big saloons. Handsome, really good to drive and built to last. The only quibble is over fuel efficiency. Mazda makes great claims for its SkyActiv diesel engine and how economical it is, but we’ve never been able to replicate those figures on the road. Mazda quotes better than 60mpg – we usually get more like 40-odd-mpg.
