It’s not a car for everyone, but it’s certainly a good car and one we’ve always had a big soft spot for. Our favourite was always the fourth generation 2003-2009 BL/BP model, which  seemed to have a chassis and steering almost perfectly tuned for Irish roads, and the 2.0-litre petrol flat-four was not half as thirsty as you might think. Later versions got a bit bigger, heavier and less enjoyable to drive, but it’s still a fine car – really reliable, comfortable and roomy.
