The Mazda2 is a terrific little car (in any of its incarnations) – small, light, agile and super fun to drive. Plus they’re reliable and long-lived. The diesel though is really not worth the effort. You could pretty easily squeeze 50mpg out of the 1.3 petrol, which is usually much more affordable to buy, so unless you’re doing mega mileage, you’re never going to claw back the extra you’ve spent buying the diesel model in fuel savings.
