The Vectra’s not going to be worth much I’m afraid – around the €2,500 to €3,000 mark at best. As for a replacement car, don’t get hung up on engine size. Remember that tax these days is calculated on emissions not capacity, so larger engines can actually be cheaper to tax if they’re lower in CO2, and a 1.4 petrol can actually be a liability at trade-in time. I’d suggest going for something with a down-sized turbo petrol or diesel engine, such as a Volkswagen Golf 1.2 TSI or Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost if you fancy a petrol engine.
