I do a lot of mixed driving both highway and city (640 miles a month, 460 motorway and 120 city with quite a few stop/starts) what would the best car be for me? I have looked but I am still not sure on anything such as what make or body type Hatchback/SUV etc. Budget not really an issue but any advice would be much appreciated thanks, Adam
Hi Adam,
That’s quite a broad set of parameters – but, first of all, even with your monthly mileage, you’re not quite beyond our usual threshold that says you need a diesel (20,000km+ per annum), so you could look at a nice, modern, turbocharged petrol engine. The amount of motorway driving you do means we’d avoid superminis and city cars, so look at C-segment hatchbacks – things the size of the Volkswagen Golf, the Ford Focus, the Opel Astra and so on. Ideally, you want your car to have adaptive cruise control, which can often be a cost option on this class of car. But one of our favourite all-rounders sits in this marketplace and ought to be the first car you look at – so go check out the Skoda Octavia.
