Renault Grand Scenic - Too big? Skoda - Seems hard to find with spec without million KM VW Golf - Another one... Yawn but has been very good to me Volvo V40/V60 - Petrol or Diesel Volvo XC60 - Too big? I haven't really seen anything else I would like. Really don't like Ford, Nissan or Opel Thanks for any tips

Given you have no kids and it's just yourself you're driving about I'd agree that the 2 Series Gran Tourer, Grand Scenic and XC60 might be too big for your needs, though the Volvo is a lovely car...
Out of the cars you've mentioned, the Alfa shouldn't be as unreliable as you might think, though you'll probably only find petrol ones and that's not ideal for an annual mileage of 30,000km.
The Volvo V40 isn't bad, but the V60 would be far superior on the road, with more room inside and more comfort in general. That's a great choice.
A couple of alternatives not on your list are the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. There are loads of them about so plenty of choice.
I highly recommend you go test drive a few examples of each of these cars so you get a feel for what you like.
