Well, it depends on what you need and what you like. Is it the estate body that you want to move away from? Or the diesel engine? Or both? You could trade down to a Skoda Octavia, which can be had with a brilliant 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and which is still very roomy and practical. Ditto the VW Golf with the same engine, albeit that’s smaller inside than the Skoda. Or you could make a move towards hybrid power and try a Toyota C-HR crossover, which looks great, is terrific to drive, but is a bit small in the back and in the boot. Want something big and spacious that’s not diesel and not an estate? How about a Peugeot 5008 SUV with the excellent 1.2-litre 130hp turbo petrol engine? Basically, there's lots of choice out there.
