Hi I've a 2007 Volvo S80 D5 Auto with 185000km.It's my 9th Volvo and ive always had over 400000km and never had a problem as I keep all services up to date.I currently do 30000 mile a year.I'll be moving to Aran Islands and will only do 1000 mile p.a. Is there an additive I can add to mitigate against DPF issues or should I remove it.Cars on the island are €110 per year to tax??and don't need a NCT
Hi Justin,
You can indeed buy additives, from companies such as Wynns or Redex, and they’re available in good motor factors, or online. Or, to be honest, just take the car for a good strop around the island, for around 30 minutes, once every couple of week, driving at high-ish rpm in a low gear, and that should be enough to keep it clear. Don’t, whatever you do, remove the DPF, as that’s actually illegal and while car rules are a bit more lax out on the islands, it could invalidate your insurance as, technically, it’s an unapproved modification.
