Hi, I am moving over to Ireland and want to bring my car with me. I was wondering if you could help with what steps I have to take to get it registered over here & how much it would be?
Hi Michael,
I'm assuming you are coming from the UK.
Before you bring the car to Ireland, you have to fill out a Customs Declaration Form. Once that's done you can bring the car in at any time, but you have seven days from its arrival in Ireland to book a VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) inspection at an NCT (National Car Test) centre and then 30 days from the date of arrival to complete the process.
If an Irish person was importing a car using this process then there would be several other taxes and charges to pay, but if you've owned your car in the UK for more than six months and can prove it, you should be exempt from those and will have to pay a minimum re-registration fee.
