Pretty decent actually, especially once the new 1.6-litre diesel engine came online. Nice to drive, reasonably roomy and very reliable. The 1.4 turbo petrol is actually probably the best engine, the old 1.7 diesel is best avoided unless you really, really need the long-range fuel economy. Check the electrics for any signs of faults, especially (if fitted) the cruise control and the electronic parking brake. Like the larger Insignia, the boot is prone to letting in water, so check the carpet for signs of dampness.
