Hi I currently have a 04 Toyota avensis with 90000 miles approx.I want to trade in to buy as new a car as possible with low mileage. My budget is approx 20000 euro so looking at some thing between 18000 and 22000 euro.my 24 daughter shares the car with me and she has full licence for past 3 years and a named driver on my insurance. We only do about 5000 km a year at the most as we live in Dublin central have on street parking.I want a car that won’t cost me too much in insurance either for the 2 of us.The models I like are Toyota Volkswagen and Hyundai.I would be grateful for your advice.thank you.
Hi Mary,
Well, if you’ve got that much to spend and your annual mileage means that you can get away with a petrol car, you’re not going to do much better than a Volkswagen Golf TSI. You could probably pick up a decent 1.5 TSI Evo for that money, but a 1.2 TSI in a nice specification would be equally pleasant. Realistically, your Avensis – low mileage though it is – will only be worth around €1,000 on the open market, so as a trade-in you’re going to be given nominal offers; maybe something like €250-€300. A dealer might offer more to sweeten a deal of course.
