VRT for 2017 Cayman?

Hi, Im finding it impossible to get a VRT figure for a Porsche cayman 718 2.0 or a 718 2.5s 2017 with approx 30000kms. Is there anywhere i can get a ballpark figure? Kind regards, Enda

Our answer:

Hi Enda,

With such niche models it's not easy to estimate an accurate figure, I'm afraid. First hurdle is the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) that Revenue will attach to the car. This will vary depending on options fitted and though I will estimate an OMSP here of say €70,000, Revenue may come up with something completely different. You can appeal it after you pay the VRT...

So, next up we need the CO2 figure. As far as I can see, the manual 2.0-litre 718 Cayman of 2017 emitted 168g/km, on the NEDC regime. Revenue will 'uplift' that to a WLTP-equivalent figure after 1 Jan 2021, which brings it to 190g/km, so VRT will be charged at 31 per cent. With an OMSP of €70,000, that makes VRT of €21,700. On top of that you'll have to pay the NOx levy, though that will be tiny in comparison to the VRT bill.

For the manual 2.5-litre 718 Cayman S, the NEDC CO2 figure is 184g/km. When that's uplifted, it puts the car into a higher VRT band, at 36 per cent.

The PDK models emit less, at 158g/km and 167g/km for the regular and S variants, respectively, meaning they both attract the 31 per cent VRT rate.

Obviously there are a lot of assumptions in this, and Revenue has its own way of doing things, so take it as nothing more than a guide to how it might work out. Hopefully it's of some help.
