Timing belt changes on a Santa Fe...

RE 2006 Sante Fe CRDi. I see in my owners manual that the Timing Belt is supposed to be replaced every 160.000 Km or 10 years for European Australia Vehicles, but the previous owner had it done at 118.000k by Hyundai Dealer as per spec for non European cars, why the difference and was Hyundai NZ misinformed or just Money grabbing, Vehicle is NZ new, thanks for your time

Our answer:

Hi Mark,

While we do not know the exact reason for that, it's highly unlikely to be anything to do with money-grabbing or misinformation. It could be that the engine specification is a little different, or the climates between the markets are considered to be different enough, or the driving conditions for that matter (higher speeds in one, more stop-start in another). It could also be a marketing decision for historical reasons.

In short, we're sure there's a pretty good reason for this kind of decision.
