Hi I'm buying a car from someone in Northern Ireland the car was originally registered in England but the person in Northern Ireland has logbook in his own address in tyrone. They don't have any forms to show when they took I from England to North what will happen when I try to vrt it
Hi John,
If Revenue suspect that the car was brought into Northern Ireland from England after 31 December 2020 then you could be liable for VAT as well as VRT, etc. However, if the seller has proof that they have owned and used the car in the North for a number of years then I don't think you will have an issue.
I suggest you contact Revenue and talk it through with someone. Here's the contact details page.
