Thoughts on the Tiguan?

Is the vw tiguan 1.5 tsi dsg a good engine, I have heard about kangaroo-ING and petrol engine burning oil. I only have small journeys 5 to 10 kms and once a month I drive from Cork to Dublin and back. Should I stick with the diesel tiguan? Its a lot of money to make a bad choice. Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Seamus,

The 1.5 TSI engine is quite a new one in the Tiguan so we believe that all examples would still be under warranty. Hence, we have heard of no widespread problems with it. If there are issues, they should be fixed under warranty.

With the driving profile you've described, you're definitely better off not having a diesel. It won't get up to temperature in your daily use, which may lead to clogging of the DPF and other components. Obviously it will be more economical on the runs to Cork, but not by enough to warrant the choice in my opinion.
