There is certainly a chance that there are differences between the Japanese import and an equivalent car sold here that might make it difficult to get parts. That varies from model to model. Saying that, there are lots of such cars in the country already so I suspect you won't have too much trouble finding a good mechanic that is experienced in such things. I wouldn't be particularly worried about resale value, either. One thing to look out for, though, is insurance. Make sure you check if your insurer has any issue with Japanese imports. That could be the biggest challenge.
